Future of National Meteorological or Hydrometeorological Services:

Evolving Roles and Responsibilities

Event Background

The Open Consultative Platform (OCP) was established on the occasion of the 18th session of the World Meteorological Congress (Cg-18) in 2019 as a consultative mechanism for WMO to engage all stakeholders in weather, climate, and water service.  The annual thematic high-level session is conducted, with the participation of public, private, and academic sectors, as part of the programme of the Executive Council or Congress sessions.

Event Details

The OCP-HL-3 will be conducted in the form of a panel discussion with the participation of WMO President, WMO Secretary-General, WMO Executive Council members, executive officers of private companies, and known scientists. The event will be open to the audience on the Zoom platform and panelists will take questions from the audience both on the venue and through Zoom. The purpose of the event includes:

  • To launch the second OCP White Paper (WP#2) "Future of National Meteorological or Hydrometeorological Services - Evolving Roles and Responsibilities” and reach all stakeholders with key messages in WP#2 to inform their future decisions on institutional, technological, and operational changes.
  • To urge actions in improving legislation, increasing data sharing, uptake of science and technology advancement, adapting operating models, developing capacities and other key aspects which will influence their evolving roles and responsibilities; and
  • To collect feedback and views of stakeholders on the theme for our future activities.

Simultaneous interpretation into the six WMO official languages will be available.
